#SayHerName
On July 22, 2018, 18-year-old Oakland resident Nia Wilson was stabbed to death at the MacArthur BART station in Oakland's Temescal District. Her sister, Latifah Wilson, was also wounded in the attack
An outpouring of misery, rage, mourning, and calls to action to protect black bodies came from all over the nation, with people using the hashtags #SayHerName and #NiaWilson to speak out about the violence against the two black women. Residents from all over the Bay Area, including some of Wilson's friends and family, gathered in Oakland the Tuesday after her murder to mourn her death and call for an end to the violence against black women.
